Our Cusco City Tour begins in the afternoon with a pick-up from your hotel in the historic center, to start this fascinating experience discovering the capital of the ancient Inca Empire. The first stop is the Cusco Cathedral, located in the Plaza de Armas. Here you can appreciate its colonial architecture, Baroque altars, and paintings from the Cusco School, which tell stories of the cultural fusion between the Andes and Europe.
Next, we head to Qoricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun. This site was the most important spiritual center of the Inca world and still retains part of its original structure, upon which the Convent of Santo Domingo was built.
After exploring the historic center, we leave the city to visit the main archaeological sites located in the surrounding areas. We begin with Sacsayhuamán, an imposing ceremonial fortress built with enormous stone blocks assembled with astonishing precision. We continue to Qenqo, a mysterious rock-carved sanctuary believed to have been used for religious rituals, and then to Puka Pukara, an ancient Inca military outpost with panoramic views of the valley.
We finish at Tambomachay, a temple dedicated to the worship of water, with canals and fountains that still flow today.
At the end of the tour, we return to the city of Cusco around 6:30 p.m., dropping you off at a central location so you can continue exploring the city at your own pace or relax after an afternoon filled with history and culture.
RECOMMENDATION: Upon your arrival in Cusco, we suggest taking the afternoon to acclimatize. Enjoy a stroll through the Plaza de Armas, the San Pedro Market, or the San Blas neighborhood. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals, and try a coca or muña tea to help you adjust to the altitude.
