The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel at 9:00 am, and we head in our private transport to Andahuaylillas, where we will visit the church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, considered the “Sistine Chapel of America”. It was built by the Jesuit Order at the end of the 16th century and the princes of the 17th century. Its architectural structure is typical of the town’s churches. Its walls are wide, like all colonial buildings, made of adobe, the façade is decorated with magnificent murals and two large stone columns at the main entrance.
Although its architecture is relatively modest, the decoration of its interior is unique and impressive. First of all, we can mention an image of the “Assumption of the Virgin”, painted by the Spanish historical painter Esteban Murillo. You will also see mural paintings attributed to Luis de Riaño (17th century). After some time to visit the church, we continue our tour to the pre-Incan archaeological site of Piquillacta for 20 minutes in our private transportation.
Upon arrival at Piquillacta we will begin our tour inside the archaeological site. Our guide will provide you with important information about Piquillacta so you can learn more about its importance.
After finishing our tour of this fascinating pre-Inca site of Piquillacta we will head towards our transport to go to our last, but not least important archaeological site of Tipon. Tipon is an important pre-Inca complex of the Andean culture, known for its impressive agricultural terraces, irrigation canals and funerary structures. Tipón was mainly used as an agricultural and ceremonial center, standing out for its sophisticated hydraulic engineering. The canals that cross the site were used to supply water to the terraces, allowing for cultivation in difficult-to-access terrain. In addition, the site reflects the Inca’s skill in urban planning and water management.
Upon arriving at the spectacular archaeological site of Tipón, we will see the best of the Incas’ working hydraulic system, the famous aqueducts that the Incas used and the agricultural terraces. Finally, we will return to the town of Tipón, known for its roast guinea pig dish (optional), a typical dish of the Cusco region. We stop to try it and then return to your hotel in Cusco city.
