The Most Famous Hike in Peru & South America
4 Days & 3 Nights
Tour Summary & What to Expect
Immerse yourself in the heart of the Southern Peruvian Amazon with an extended 4-day expedition. First, this itinerary combines a unique night in an Amazonian camp with an early morning spectacle at the Parrot Clay Lick. Additionally, you will enjoy comfortable lodge stays while exploring pristine lagoons and rich jungle wildlife.
Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our team greets you at the airport to begin the program with a refreshing lunch and a brief city bus tour. Afterwards, we head to Port Capitanía to board a motorized boat for a 2.5-hour navigation down the Madre de Dios River, followed by a canoe ride to our jungle camp.
RECOMMENDATION: Wear lightweight, quick-drying clothing with long sleeves, bring a headlamp or flashlight for the camp night, high-DEET insect repellent, and a water bottle.
Wake up early to visit the observatory and watch colorful parrots and macaws gather at the clay lick. After breakfast at the camp, we navigate down the Lower Madre de Dios River toward Ecoamazonia Lodge. After settling into your private bungalow and enjoying lunch, we explore Monkey Island to spot various primate species before admiring a stunning Amazonian sunset.
RECOMMENDATION: Carry binoculars for bird and primate watching, along with a sun hat, sunglasses, and a camera with extra batteries.
After breakfast, embark on a guided trek into the pristine forest of the Ecoamazonia Reserve toward Cocha Perdida, a haven for giant otters, caimans, turtles, and tapirs. Climb the Amazonian Viewpoint for panoramic forest views and enjoy a peaceful paddle canoe ride on the lagoon before returning to the lodge.
RECOMMENDATION: Wear trekking shoes or rubber boots suitable for muddy trails, pack a light rain poncho, and bring swimwear for the afternoon lodge pool.
Enjoy your final breakfast at the lodge before boarding the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Coordinated boat and land transfers bring you directly to the airport for your onward flight to Lima or your next destination.
Recommendation: Keep your original passport and flight tickets in your hand luggage, and schedule departure flights from mid-morning to midday.
