We will start the tour with your pick up from your hotel at 6am, starting to drive from your hotel, to the small town of Tauca (3,750m/12,303ft) where you will have breakfast (not included), after finishing breakfast we will start our walk on flat terrain and the landscape will be that of the typical Andean valleys, rich in corn, potatoes, barley, quinoa and other Andean tubers. As you ascend towards the pass at (4,050m/13,287ft), the landscape begins to change dramatically to the classic savannah or puna of the High Andes, with sparse vegetation, mainly «ichu» or high altitude grass. The views of the peaks of the Vilcabamba mountain range are spectacular; snow-capped peaks of Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon and San Juan. Shortly after the pass, you will begin your descent towards the plains of Huchuy Qosqo along a path that leads to the Cauca ravine, where you can observe archaeological remains and wild crops, such as tarwi, and a large number of cacti.
You will walk downhill towards the León Punku ravine, where you will find remains of an Inca bridge and road. This canyon features geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks and boulders that direct the river towards Huchuy Qosqo (3,650 m / 11,975 ft). Upon reaching our destination, our guide will tell us the history of this archaeological center. Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cuzco) is a remarkable Inca complex. It features very fine stonework in a large Kallanka (rectangular room), some important ceremonial sectors and interesting rustic two-story houses in stone and adobe. Huchuy Qosqo is located on a plateau, surrounded by Inca agricultural terraces and offers magnificent views of the Vilcabamba mountain range. At the end of our tour of Huchuy Qosqo we will descend to the town of Lamay (2,900 m / 9,514 ft), where we will take our transport that will be waiting for us and then head to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will continue by train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes we will spend the night in a hotel (not included).
