Itinerary Inca Trail Full Day Tour – Short Trek to Machu Picchu

Day 1 Cusco - Ollantaytambo - Wiñay Wayna - Inti Punku - Machu Picchu

4:00 a.m. – Hotel Pick-up (Cusco)

Our guide will pick you up very early in the morning to begin the journey to the train station in Ollantaytambo, in private transportation.

Train Transfer to Km 104

Upon arrival at the station, we will board the train by showing our passports. After a journey of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, we will get off at Km 104, the starting point of our hike.

Hike Begins – Chachabamba (2,000 m / 6,560 ft)

After crossing a picturesque pedestrian bridge over the Urubamba River, we will register our entry to the Inca Trail and you can use the restrooms before starting.

A few minutes later, we will begin our visit to the first archaeological site: Chachabamba, where the guide will explain the function and importance of this complex. At the end, you will have a short time for photographs.

Ascent to Wiñay Wayna (2,600 m / 8,500 ft)

The first part of the trek involves approximately 1.5 hours of moderate climbing, passing natural viewpoints with panoramic views of the valley and through diverse microclimates, including cloud forest (be prepared for humidity or rain at any time of year).

The next 1.5 hours are steeper, but with a beautiful reward: a spectacular waterfall where you can take incredible photos. Upon crossing the bridge beneath the waterfall, you will have your first glimpse of the impressive archaeological complex of Wiñay Wayna, one of the jewels of the Inca Trail.

Here, the guide will explain its history and unique architecture before continuing to the lunch spot (just 5 minutes away).

Hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku)

After lunch, we'll continue along a mostly flat trail for an hour, with some small inclines and declines. The final stretch includes the famous Inca-carved rock steps that mark our arrival at the Sun Gate.

From this point, you'll enjoy your first panoramic views of Machu Picchu, a unique opportunity to take photos and appreciate the scale of the citadel.

Along the way to Machu Picchu, we'll also pass by other smaller archaeological sites. Take the opportunity to ask questions and enjoy the final stretch of the Inca Trail.

Arrival at Machu Picchu (Afternoon Visit)

You'll arrive in the afternoon, when most visitors have already left, allowing for a more peaceful experience and excellent photographs in the golden light. The guide will lead an approximately 2-hour tour of the most important points of the sanctuary.

Descent to Aguas Calientes – Return to Cusco

After the visit, we will board the bus to Aguas Calientes, where we will go to the station to take the return train:

Expedition Train: 6:20 p.m.:
Vistadome Train (optional): 6:10 p.m.:

Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our private transportation will take you back to Cusco.

Minimum height: 2,040m / 6,693ft
